Latest VB Verified Certification - Security for Mail Servers
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers 3.0.2 achieved a VB Verified certification in the latest Virus BulletinAnti-Spam Comparative Review.
The review was based on a test run of the solutions using an email corpus of 250 thousand e-mails, gathered mainly from Project Honey Pot and the Virus Bulletin e-mail system over the period of the winter holidays.
Tested products were given the certification based on an aggregate measure of performance which took into account both the rate of mislabeled legit messages (false positives) and the rate of detection of spam messages.
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers 3.0.2 achieved improved scores as compared to the September 2009 test, with false positives decreasing from approximately 0.8% to 0.6%, while the spam detection rate remained at approximately 98%.
BitDefender antispam researchers attribute much of the success to improvements to the new LiveQuery in-the-cloud antispam system, which lowered the false positives rate.
With LiveQuery, a proprietary algorithm extracts key elements from the analyzed mail and creates something similar to a unique encrypted fingerprint. If the BitDefender network of servers finds a match in its databases of known spam fingerprints, it issues a block command to the client application.
