At the core of all BitDefender products
is B-HAVE (Behavioral Heuristic Analyzer
in Virtual Environments). In addition to
traditional signature detection and content-based
heuristic methods, B-HAVE implements behavior-based
heuristics. By emulating a virtual computer-inside-a-computer
where pieces of software are run and checked
for potential malicious behavior, B-HAVE
virtually eliminates false positives and
significantly increases detection rates
for new and unknown malware.
This proprietary BitDefender technology
represents a new security layer that keeps
the operating system safe from unknown viruses
by detecting malicious pieces of code for

Core Functionalities
Blocks Infected Messages
Filters and blocks messages if the attachment
or message body includes a virus, Trojan,
backdoor or other potentially dangerous
active codes. It blocks infected files
regardless of the archive or compression
type.
Scanning at Transport Level**
VSAPI-based scanning at transport level
prevents infected messages from entering
the Exchange organization. Messages that
pass through a gateway Exchange 2003 server
and which would not normally enter the
Exchange store are scanned in this way.
Outbound Scanning*
This type of scanning is performed on
all outbound messages, before they are
sent.
Optimized Scanning
The scanning of multiple recipient e-mails
is done only once, before delivery, instead
of being repeated for each separate recipient.
Protection for New Mailboxes
Real-time antivirus protection is provided
for newly created mail boxes.
Self-adjusting Antivirus Activity
Prevents e-mail server overload or speed
loss in data transmission as the antivirus
activity self-adjusts according to the
system processes of the e-mail server.
Proactive Scanning
New e-mail messages are scanned upon being
submitted to the Exchange server, even
before they are actually accessed, unless
higher priority e-mail messages are being
scanned at the time.
Secures Infected or Suspected Files
Infected or suspected files are isolated
in quarantine zones, the content of which
can be analyzed at any time by the IT
manager or can be sent for analysis to
the BitDefender Antivirus Lab.
Antispam Heuristic Analysis Technology*
The heuristic filter performs a set of
tests on all message components, (i.e.
not only the header, but also the message
body in either HTML or text format), looking
for words, phrases or links which are
common to spam.
WBL (White List/ Blacklist) support*
The administrator can set a list of trusted
and untrusted addresses based on which
to respectively "always accept"
or "always reject" mail.
