FEATURES
BitDefender Technologies
At the core of all BitDefender products
there is B-HAVE (Behavioral Heuristic
Analyzer in Virtual Environments). In
addition to traditional signature detection
and content-based heuristic methods, B-HAVE
implements behavior-based heuristics.
By emulating a virtual computer-inside-a-computer
where pieces of software are run and checked
for potential malicious behavior, B-HAVE
virtually eliminates false positives and
significantly increases detection rates
for new and unknown malware.
This proprietary BitDefender technology
represents a new security layer that keeps
the operating system safe from unknown
viruses by detecting malicious pieces
of code for which signatures have not
yet been released.
Certified Antivirus Engines
BitDefender’s award winning scan engines
featuring the B-HAVE technology have been
recognized by leading certification bodies
to provide the most proactive antivirus
protection available. The BitDefender
Antivirus scan engines are certified by
ICSA Labs, Virus Bulletin and Checkmark.
UNIX-Based Platforms
Core Functionalities
MTA Integration System
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
offers dedicated agents for several of
the most popular mail transfer agents
(Sendmail, Courier, qmail and CommuniGate
Pro). Due to its SMTP proxy agent, the
product can be used with other MTAs (such
as Exim or Dmail) as well, or when the
filtering process is done separately from
the running Mail Server. The SMTP proxy
agent also gives access to features such
as connection count limiting, trusted
networks and relay domain limitations.
Highly Efficient Antispam Filters
Each message is analyzed on-the-fly by
the central dispatcher, which then decides
(based on the message characteristics)
which of the product’s 7 powerful filters
to use. When the dispatcher has built
enough confidence, it labels the message
as spam, phishing or legitimate.
WBL (White List/ Blacklist) Support
The administrator can set a list of trusted
and untrusted addresses based on which
to respectively "always accept"
or "always reject" mail.
Proactive Phishing Detection
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
uses anti-phishing technology to detect
illegal attempts to copy the “look and
feel” of authentic messages, as well as
the disguises and the forgeries used to
persuade the user to send confidential
data to a particular recipient.
NeuNet Spam Filter
In order to better deal with new spam,
the BitDefender Lab has created the Neural
Network (NeuNet) filter which will identify
new spam based on the similarity (very
subtle, at times) between new messages
and the ones the filter was pre-trained
on.
Configurable Antispam Filter
Sensitivity
The administrator can adapt the antispam
filter’s sensitivity by setting very demanding
or relaxed thresholds for each group of
users.
User and Group Management
Besides a generic set of rules for the
entire mail traffic, administrators will
be able to configure different antivirus
and antispam actions for each group of
users so that large companies and ISPs
are provided with scalable and flexible
protection.
SNMP Support
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
works with SNMP-based monitoring and management
systems. The SNMP Logger plug-in can send
virus and administration alerts to three
different hosts. The SNMP Daemon Plug-in
allows performing product management actions
such as triggering the update process
or restarting the product.
Increased Usability
Intuitive Management Interface
BitDefender Remote Admin
This management tool for UNIX-based product
helps remotely configure any settings
in a single interface and check the current
status of the product (detailed statistics
and update information).
BDSAFE (The BitDefender Swiss
Army KniFE)
This management tool is the command line
interface which allows performing post-install
configuration and administration tasks.
Compatibility and Flexibility
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
is flexible and configurable up to its
smallest detail. It fully complies with
FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard) and
its Rpm, deb and generic .tar.run packages
ensure its compatibility with all major
UNIX-based products.
Reports and Statistics
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
can send customizable e-mail notifications
or SNMP alerts about its activity: number
of scanned, disinfected, deleted, infected
or filtered files. The statistics module
displays information about current and
past activity in a convenient rrd- based
graph or chart format
Windows- Based Platforms
Core Functionalities
IP Match
E-mails with spoofed headers no longer
fool the White List filter because each
e-mail domain is matched to a particular
IP address so that messages with non-
matching IP addresses are rejected.
Antispam Heuristic Analysis Technology
The heuristic filter performs a set of
tests on all message components, (i.e.
not only the header, but also the message
body in either HTML or text format), looking
for words, phrases or links which are
common to spam.
WBL (White List / Blacklist)
Support
The administrator can set a list of trusted
and untrusted addresses based on which
to respectively "always accept"
or "always reject" mail.
Content Filtering
The product filters and blocks messages
by subject line, message body, attachment,
sender or recipient. Filtering rules within
the database can be modified and saved
as default by the IT manager at any time,
according to the necessary security policies.
Optimized Scanning
The scanning of multiple recipient e-mails
is done only once, before delivery, instead
of being repeated for each separate recipient.
Secures Infected or Suspected
Files
Infected or suspected files are isolated
in quarantine zones, the content of which
can be analyzed at any time by the IT
manager or can be sent for analysis to
the BitDefender Antivirus Lab
Increased Usability
Instant Warning Messages
If a virus is detected, detailed warning
messages are instantaneously sent to the
network security and management staff.
Remote Management
Server protection can be remotely configured
by simply installing the management console
on one computer inside the network.
Centralized Management
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
is compatible with BitDefender Enterprise
Manager, allowing organizations to centrally
manage antivirus protection and security
policies inside complex networks.
Detailed Reports and Statistics
BitDefender Security for Mail Servers
comes with a separate report module which
provides daily, weekly or monthly statistics,
organized by categories, which can be
generated and viewed in the administration
console.
Services
Advanced Update System
Server traffic protection is kept up-
to-date due to the latest updates and
patches your BitDefender product receives
based on three configurable technologies:
on-demand, automatic and pushed.
Update Pushing
The latest virus signatures are “pushed”
to your servers the second they become
available instead of waiting for the next
scheduled update, further reducing the
threat presented by new viruses.
Upgrades
Registered users benefit from free upgrades
to any new version of the product during
the license period. Special price offers
are also available to returning customers.
Free 24/7 Professional Technical
Support
Certified representatives provide BitDefender
business customers with free permanent
support online, by telephone or e-mail.
The professional technical support is
supplemented by an online database with
answers to Frequently Asked Questions
and fixes for common issues.
